Take the Helm . . .

The nation sat and watched our President give a speech in prime time, from the Oval Office. President Obama is a fine speaker and inspirational, but this was the time for action, not inspiration. I like President Obama and support him, but need to speak out when I believe his actions are wrong or insufficient.

I give the President credit for trying to move us away from the “Imperial Presidency” back to a distinct separation of powers as described in the Constitution. Unfortunately, what the US needs right now is a firm hand on the helm of the ship of state. We saw the result of his leaving health care legislation up to Congress; we needed him to propose a bill and make sure it moved through the Congress. Instead, he allowed things to go nowhere for a long time, and the eventual bill that was passed pleases no one and solves little.

Now we are faced with the worst ecological disaster in our nation’s history and, before it is over, perhaps the worst in anyone’s history. What we need now is Action, not more rhetoric. DO SOMETHING MR, PRESIDENT! You said now is the time to move to clean, renewable energy and become energy independent; where is your plan? Where is our 21st Century Manhattan Project that will save our nation, our planet, and create millions of jobs in the bargain?

If you do not take the helm now, I assure you it will be turned over to another captain in 2012.
